Lovely readers, summer is getting crazy busy and I've been lazily slacking! But today I am back with a post from one of my favourite bloggers Daryl, of Roots, Wings and Other Things. She's a lovely lady and she bakes a treat, so she has happily agreed to share one of her recipes with you! Clearly she, like me, has a Nutella obsession. Be sure to visit her blog, it's full of stories from her travels, snippets of her photography, drool-worthy original recipes and loads more. Over to you Daryl....

Hello wonderful readers of From Cupcakes, With Love! My name is Daryl and I am the crazy girl behind Roots, Wings & Other Things, a blog dedicated to doing whatever you can to follow your dreams! I'd like to think myself a pretty decent cook and have recently taken up baking, so I was honored when Safia asked me to share one of my recipes on her blog. The recipe I'm going to share with you is the recipe my grandmother/mother/myself have been using...forever (How can you deny three generations of awesome) with one major twist: I had the brilliant idea - patting myself on the back right now - of adding Nutella. Click below to read all about it...
I mean, WHY NOT add Nutella, right? EVERYTHING is better with Nutella! These were so positively scrumptious it's unreal. In fact, I must from now on reserve them only for special occasions or else my body will grow to be equal in size to a small planet. Not sexy.
THE INGREDIENTS:
Dough:
2 eggs
1 cup warm milk
1/3 cup butter, melted
4 1/2 cups bread flour (all purpose works in a pinch)
1/3 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup white sugar
1/3 cup butter, melted
1 pkg yeast (1/4 ounce)
Filling:
1 cup brown sugar, packed
2 1/2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
1/3 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup Nutella
Icing:
3 to 5 ounces cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup (4 tablespoons) butter, softened
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/8 teaspoon salt
Step One: Prepare the dough
Microwave milk for 45 seconds in the microwave in a large bowl, then mix in yeast to dissolve. Add sugar, butter, salt, eggs, and flour and stir until thoroughly combined. Dust your hands with flour and knead for several minutes.
Put in a greased bowl and cover, let sit for over an hour in a warm place.
Step Two: Prepare the filling
In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon. Roll dough into a large rectangle about a quarter inch thick onto a floured surface. Spread dough with softened butter and then a thin layer of nutella. Sprinkle evenly with the brown sugar/cinnamon mixture.
Step Three: Roll it up
Take the longer side of the dough and roll up up dough. Cut into rolls with a large knife. You can make them as small or as large as you please! I didn't know how to space them so I used two pans, but looking back on it I should have used one and had them smush/grow together. Cover and let rise about 30 more minutes!
Step Four: Bake
In an oven preheated to 350 F, bake rolls until golden brown, about 20 minutes.
Step Five: Topping!
While the rolls are in the oven, beat together the ingredients for the topping until you've reached the desired consistency.
Step Six: Enjoy!
Spread the topping on the rolls while they are still warm so it gets nice and melted, and enjoy every bite!
*If you plan on making these for breakfast, consider completing steps one - three the night before and then refrigerate overnight.
