When I was making this little thing, I couldn't wipe the smile off my face. Especially whilst doing the dungarees and the moustache! This cake was made for a little boy's birthday, and as you can tell he has a thing for Super Mario. But really, who doesn't? If you need a reminder of the joy that the Super Mario video games produce in oneself...watch the video I've put at the bottom of this post.
It was a small, personal 4" chocolate cake filled with chocolate fudge icing and covered in sugar paste. I thought it would be a cool idea to have Mario actually punching through the cake, which is why you can see the folds around the red on the Toad section. Mario himself was made using a combination of sugar paste, flower paste and modelling paste. It was seriously fiddly getting all of the features on his face done properly, and his little mouth, but it was all worth it in the end.
I was in such a rush to finish the cake that I didn't actually have time to take any good quality photos, but I managed to snap a quick few before I left (thank yoooou iPhone).
Now, I wonder if we have the old Nintendo 64 lying around anywhere...

This is a piece of art - it would be a crime to cut it up and eat it! I used to play Super Mario as a child, so this brings back good memories.
